The park resides along the Gowanus canal which after years of industrial use has been left highly polluted. With the transportation function shutting down, we saw an opportunity to bring new life to the canal.

Our plan is to revitalize the canal by bringing in the community and expanding nature in the space. With more families and artists moving into the area, we want to make a space that reflects the needs of the changing demographic. Reaching across the canal, the bridge links the neighborhoods together. The park brings the community closer to nature and to each other.

The bridge connects the two neighborhoods on a personal level. It provides people space to connect and enjoy different activities like skateboarding, walking their dogs, or grabbing a coffee. The renders were created by Tianli and edited by Sofia and myself.

For the materials, we used reclaimed wood from the factories nearby and incorporated a metal mesh for the platform. We also added different kinds of local plants around the canal such as Purple Love Glass, Wild Blue Lupine, and Seaside Goldenrod. These would bring pollinators, like butterflies and hummingbirds, and bring the community closer to nature.
